China in distribution box vites overseas partner in R&D of homegrown jumbo jet

Mar. 16, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China will look for overseas companies to participate in the research and development (R&D) of its jumbo jets, the People's Daily reported, citing a senior official from the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) as saying.
Zhang Hongbiao, Director of the Science and Technology Committee for AVIC, said that the R&D of the home-grown jumbo jets will integrate independent development with international cooperation.
AVIC welcomes qualified companies home and abroad to jointly bid for the supply contracts of key parts and components of the jumbo jets, Zhang added.
Zhang also said that not all key parts and components of the home-grown jumbo jets will be purchased from overseas suppliers. Chinese suppliers also provide parts and components to Boeing, Airbus as well as GE and Hewlett Packard engines.
The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) will be engaged in R&D, system integration, marketing and training of the project, according to Zhang.
